Process Survey Tools (PSTs) are a means of measuring the maturity levels of key business processes. They are practical tools aimed at helping managers improve their planning and decision-making processes, as well as giving them guidance on how to improve the processes. With the PSTs, organisations will be able to compare where they currently are, with where they would like to be, and provide direction on what to do to get to the next level. Higher Process Survey Tool scores - and therefore greater process maturity - should lead to improved business performance.
The application of a PST is similar to the assessment methods used for the EFQM excellence model. The same kind of rules can be applied for the behavior of assessors, and there is also a feedback session.
The value of PSTs lies in their ability to accurately determine the level that reflects current business thinking on best-in-class and world-class, as well as the guidance they provide for improvement. This is even evident when PSTs are used by a large number of companies, and benchmarking of maturity levels and good practices can take place.
The main purpose of PSTs is self-assessment. They Can however also be use for auditing. A team that uses the PST is looking for improvement guidance.
Some PST's can be purchased as an E-tool which is a software application runs in MS Access and is used to facilitate group assessment and easy processing. It includes the PST and software.
